Our economy should benefit everyday Georgians, not the Good Old Boys.
The “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” promised better jobs and better pay. It’s accomplished neither. Meanwhile, the corporate income tax rate that was slashed by 15% is permanent, while the marginal tax cut passed along to working families expires in 2027. Like always, the Good Old Boys made out like bandits, while the rest of us got bread crumbs.
Georgia Can’t Wait Solution: The corporate income tax rate should be raised so working families don’t pay more in taxes than Amazon, Exxon, and the 60 other corporations that paid ZERO Federal Income Taxes in 2018.
In addition, there should be a 2% wealth tax on fortunes over $50 million. This would generate $3 trillion that would go back to working families. For decades the rich and well connected have used their access to rig the game in their favor. Now it’s time working families got a break.
We must also pass the “Raise The Wage Act,” which would raise the National Minimum Wage to $15 an hour over a period of 5 years, and the “Protecting The Right To Organize Act,” which would restore fairness to the economy by strengthening federal laws that protect workers’ right to organize a union and bargain for higher wages and better benefits.
Finally, we must expand rural broadband, so all Georgians can compete in today’s economy. No one’s economic freedom should be limited by their zip code. Rural broadband will ensure small businesses, entrepreneurs, and folks in the gig economy all have the same chance to thrive.
