We should be a state where everyone can build a life anchored in freedom, dignity, and respect.
Each person in this state should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their country of origin. Georgians are some of the most kind and welcoming people, and that’s one of the reasons the fabric of our state is woven with heritages from across the globe. Immigrants are our friends, our neighbors, our local business owners, and the parents of our children’s friends. You don’t have to be born here to be a Georgian, and we should embrace that notion.
Georgia Can’t Wait Solution
As a country, we must pursue fair, comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for people in this country. Our country has a long history for being a place of refuge and asylum, and we should continue to honor that legacy while we work on legislative reforms.
This also includes defending the rights of DREAMers as they pursue their educational goals, and providing a pathway for DACA recipients to pursue post-secondary education. In addition, we must improve the relationships between state and law enforcement officials and immigrant communities here in Georgia. No one in our state should be denied protection under the law because they are a victim of timing or circumstance.
